For the public’s information on the reports in media about Russia’s attempt to invade Ukraine
The events taken place because of a military operation of Russia which is disregarding the territorial integrity of Ukraine afflict us deeply as a nation. In some news reports, primarily the social media origin reports about the advancements on the relevant events, it is observed that misinformation has been given on the evacuations of our citizens living in Ukraine and there have been untrue accusations against our Turkish Embassy and Consulates in Ukraine. Similarly, it is also observed that no due deliberation has been shown on the sharing of footage and information, and remarkably some people whose knowledge on the matters are not adequate have given information in such news reports and presented wrong information to the public. Any evaluations made by such people with an inadequate information mislead public rather than create an awareness on the matters.
In news reporting, informing public about the efforts initiated by our Ministry of Foreign Affairs especially for the evacuations of our citizens living in Ukraine carries importance in terms of the creation of a wholesome environment of percipience. It shouldn’t be forgotten that both the people expecting to be evacuated from Ukraine and the people in Türkiye expecting the evacuation of their acquaintances are keeping abreast of the current news programmes. Giving space to the false information and untrue accusations in the news reporting that will overshadow the altruist efforts spent by the whole State institutions, primarily the ones of the Türkiye Ministry of Foreign Affairs will mix people’s mind. Sharing the information whose origin is certain, clear, and accurate is the essence of journalism. Reflecting the releases of real specialists and analysts in the news reporting is significant in terms of informing the public accurately about the events taking place.
Moreover, in the news reporting about the regions which sensitive people view, selection of the footages as appropriate to the humane sensitivity is of utmost importance.
We feel certain that our media will show its distinctiveness in their reports about the latest advancements in Ukraine as usually as in every international events. We are grateful to our press workers and reporters who work devotedly to their profession by risking their lives in the hot regions of the world. We also believe that Turkish media will always keep in mind how effective military conflicts are on people and prove to the whole world how war reporting is made properly and professionally.
