RTÜK Published “Mediameter” Public Opinion Research
The “Mediameter Media Usage Habits Research-2024” conducted by the Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) has been published. The research has revealed that the amount of time spent in front of screens and media preferences in Türkiye have reached remarkable levels.
Television remained the most reliable source of news
According to the research, television was the most reliable source of news with 91.9%. Television was followed by social media with 77.8% and online news sites with 73.7%. Participants ranked television ahead of print media, online news sites, social media, radio, and video sharing platforms in terms of trust.
The level of trust in news sources was ranked from most reliable to least reliable as follows: television, print media, online news sites, social media, radio, and video sharing platforms.
Türkiye watched an average of 3 hours and 43 minutes of television
According to the research results, the average daily television viewing time across Türkiye was determined to be 3 hours and 43 minutes. This viewing time was determined to be 5 hours and 16 minutes for the 65 and older age group. When examined by gender, the average daily television viewing time for women was calculated to be 4 hours and 2 minutes, while for men it was 3 hours and 25 minutes.
In addition, the research found that the rate of people who watch television at least once a week was 93.4 percent.
Most watched program type: news
Among the most watched programs among participants, news stood out with 89%, while TV series and movies ranked with 85.7%, games with 64%, and documentaries with 45.4%. The rate of watching TV series and movies was 92.2% among women and 79% among men, while the most watching age group was 55-64 years old with 90.4%.

Looking at the distribution, 92.2% of women and 79% of men prefer to watch TV series and movies.
The age group that watched TV series and movies the most was 55-64 years old with 90.4 percent.
The study also found that the rate of listening to music on the radio and digital media was 27%, with an average daily listening time of 1 hour and 40 minutes.
Increase in social media usage
The research found that the 15-24 age group uses social media 4 hours and 5 minutes, above the daily average. The percentage of those who use social media every day was 69.1%, while the average daily usage time was determined to be 3 hours and 12 minutes.
Mobile phones on the top of the device ownership list
Among the devices owned by participants, mobile phones ranked first with 99%. This was followed by television with 94.8%, computers/tablets with 53.9%, radio with 14.5%, game consoles with 8.4%, and e-book readers with 2.3%.
Internet was used every day
While 82.5% of participants connected to the internet every day, the percentage of people who watch television broadcasts every day reached 69.6%. The percentage of those who follow video on demand platforms every day was 16.5%, while the percentage of those who listen to radio and digital music broadcasts was 10.4%.
Scope of the research
The “Mediameter Media Usage Habits Research” was conducted with 15,766 people aged 15 and over in 26 provinces across seven regions in Türkiye.
50.3% of participants were female and 49.7% were male. In terms of age distribution, the 15-24 age group accounted for 19.2%, the 25-34 age group for 19.1%, the 35-44 age group for 19.2%, the 45-54 age group for 16.6%, the 55-64 age group for 12.9%, and the 65 and older age group for 13%.
Video on demand platforms on the rise
According to the RTÜK research, the percentage of people using video on demand platforms increased compared to 2023.
Three out of every ten people stated that they subscribed to at least two or more platforms. This showed an increase in platform diversity in digital content consumption.
