Mehmet Daniş Appointed as New President of RTÜK
Mehmet Daniş has been appointed as the new President of the Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK).
Ebubekir Şahin, who has served as RTÜK President for four terms, did not run for re-election this term.
Following the end of Şahin's term, who had been elected RTÜK President four times since January 23, 2019, the members of the Supreme Council gathered to elect a new president.
At the meeting, Mehmet Daniş, a member of the Council, was elected RTÜK President, and Orhan Karadaş was elected Vice President.
New President Mehmet Daniş thanked Ebubekir Şahin, from whom he took over the position, saying:
“I would like to thank our President for the vision, work discipline, and valuable contributions he has brought to RTÜK. We will work with all our might to carry this strong legacy forward and contribute to our country's media policies in line with the requirements of the age.”
Handing over the position President Ebubekir Şahin congratulated the new President Mehmet Daniş, saying:
“May your new presidency be auspicious. I sincerely believe that you will add value to the vision and mission of our Supreme Council, and I offer my love and respect to each of you.”
Şahin emphasized that during his term, RTÜK took important steps with a supervision and regulation approach that prioritized the family as a red line and focused on national and spiritual values.
Şahin said, "We worked resolutely to protect our country's precious youth, our children, and our families from harmful content, to strengthen media literacy, and to increase media access for people with disabilities. From the day I was first elected as president, we succeeded in making our Supreme Council more visible at the national and international levels. Looking back today, I am extremely pleased to see that we have made significant progress towards this goal. I sincerely thank all my colleagues who have worked with me throughout this process for their efforts, support, and dedication."
The new President, Mehmet Daniş, noted the following:
“Our most important task is to raise the banner we have taken over from Mr. Şahin even higher. We will work diligently to make RTÜK a stronger and more effective institution in line with the expectations of society.”
Who is Mehmet Daniş?
Mehmet Daniş, a graduate of Istanbul University Faculty of Law, served as a member of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye (TBMM) for the 22nd, 23rd, and 24th terms as the AK Party representative for Çanakkale. He also served as a member of the TBMM Presidency Board and as Chairman of the TBMM Petition Commission. Daniş served as Deputy Minister of Food, Agriculture, and Livestock in the 64th and 65th governments.
During his time as a member of the parliament, Daniş took on important roles in legislative activities and played a part in the preparation of numerous laws. Mehmet Daniş was elected by the Grand National Assembly of Turkey to the RTÜK and began his term on July 27, 2021.
